Mayors Charity Concert
Time: 7:00pm |
Although the audience was one of our smallest this year, their enthusiasm was amazing. The programme of music seemed to tick all the correct boxes and the post concert comments were all very complimentary. The band settled well in the strange surroundings and soon came to grips with the dead acoustics in the room. Some members of the band stated that they liked the venue very much even if it was a bit squashed!!
As far as the Director of Music was concerned - he was delighted with the performance of the band.
The concert raised £700 for The Mayor's Charity which will go to Help for Heroes. |

GERMAN FRIENDSHIPS CEMENTED BY THE SLEAFORD CONCERT BAND
During the recent half-term break The Sleaford Concert Band travelled to Berlin to stage three very prestigious concerts. After leaving Sleaford on the Monday morning the Band flew to Shonefield Airfield in Berlin. On the Tuesday the musicians were given a guided tour of the Reichstag Building by the Mayor of Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf, Sleaford’s twin town. That evening the band played their first concert in the fantastic Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtnis Kirke (Blue Church). Tourists came and went during the concert but by the end a good number had stayed to listen. On Wednesday a trip to the top of the Fernsebturm – Television Tower, gave everyone a superb view over the city. Then a forty-five minute train ride to Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf where the second concert was to take place. The audience received the band with 5 encores and the hospitality was second to none. The warmth of our welcome will stay in our memories for many years to come. Our last day in Berlin consisted of a boat trip on the River Spree seeing the sights and in the evening a concert in one of Berlin’s oldest churches, The Marienkirche.
The visit to Berlin was expertly organised by Malcolm Goodman and the trip was totally self-funded by the band and its musicians. The standard of the musicianship throughout the duration of the visit was exemplary. A huge success by everyone involved.
All the musicians would like to thank the local businesses who contributed donations towards the cost of trip. The Band is now planning a musical visit to Paris in May 2013. |

Heckington Show |
| A sunny evening and approximately 5000 people greeted the Sleaford Concert Band and The Crawley Millennium Concert Band for this annual event which is just getting bigger and bigger every year. The concert was presented by Jim McQuade and was very well received. A blanket collection raised just over a £1000 for Help for Heroes. Thank you to all who donated. As usual the evening finished with a superb fireworks display and everyone went home happy!! |

Royal British Legion "Poppy Prom"
Time: 7:30pm |
Another Poppy Prom and yet again another Church full to capacity. It is a joy to play in front of a packed house. The band was superb, as usual. The RAF Waddington Pipes and Drums were splendid and the joint band piece, Highland Cathedral, had many people reaching for the tissues!!!
The entire evening was a tribute to our Armed Forces and those who had paid the ultimate price for their country in every conflict since 1945.
Lance Corporal, Wynne Austin, our guest of honour presented an emotional tribute and was received by a standing ovation. Nearly £5000 was raised for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Thank you. |
