On Sunday 12th July 2009 the Sleaford Concert Band gave musical support at a memorial ceremony held at The William Farr School in Welton near Lincoln. A memorial window was unveiled to the 700 men who were based at RAF Dunholme Lodge during the Second World War who did not return. They were mostly New Zealand and Australian bomber crews who were lost during raids over Germany. The band played during lunch and then gave a short concert of RAF music before the memorial service. The day concluded with the band playing Sunset to the sound of the Battle of Britain Lancaster Bomber flying overhead. A very emotional day and every member of the band was humbled and proud to have been part of this ceremony.

Heckington Show Firework Concert

The second half included a selection of patriotic music which had the 2000 strong audience singing their heads off. The concert finished with a performance of the 1812 Overture accompanied by a fantastic Firework Display. Mr Charles Pinchbeck, Chairman of the Heckington Show, said the evening felt like a party rather than a concert – absolutely spot on!!” On the Sunday afternoon the Sleaford Concert Big Band performed their inaugural performance and was received with great acclaim. The band was expertly led by the local saxophonist and conductor Dave ‘Spud’ Taylor. A big thank you to him.

SCB travel to Marquette lez Lille twinning trip.

The Band left Sleaford at 0030hrs on Saturday 24th October and travelled by coach via the Shuttle to Lille where we stayed in the Ibis Hotel. Saturday proved to be an excellent day for band bonding!! Sunday was bright and sunny and JJ, Harvey, Malcolm, Luke, Mike and Jim travelled to Marquette to play at a wreath laying ceremony. This proved to be a very moving event with flowers being placed at the French War memorial in the cemetery and a minute silence was observed over the graves of three fallen British soldiers from World War 1. In the afternoon the band performed in the Salon de Mayor after having been entertained by Hungarian dancers. Band members had Sunday evening to experience the delights of Lille before returning home on Monday morning. Hundreds of photographs can be seen on Facebook, some of which will appear on this web site soon.

Christmas Concert

Time: 7:00pm

The Annual Sleaford Concert Band Christmas Concert was received with great acclaim. There was something for everyone on the programme. The concert took the traditional format of a mixture of festive music, carols and light entertainment.
A close harmony singing group dubbed “The Choirboys” performed their version of The Twelve Days of Christmas which raised the roof while the band performed to the usual high standard the audience has come to expect. The Dave Taylor sax ensemble entertained with a spot of festive jazz and the concert concluded with the famous Christmas selection “Christmas Festival”.
£250 was raised from the raffle which was donated to “Help for Heroes”.
