Sun 11th St Denys Church, Sleaford

Mayors Charity Concert
End of Sleaford Live week.

Time: 7:00pm

The weather was scorching, St Deny's Church looked better than ever and the bands played a varied and interesting programme. This concert was to bring four events together that all happened over this weekend. The twinning with Marquette Les Lille, The Mayor's Charity Concert, Sleaford Live 08 and the Sleaford Concert Band's 10th Birthday.

Stage Centre got the concert off in an upbeat fashion. Followed by an interesting arrangement of Jesus Christ Super Star. By now the SCB had settled down and got used to the acoustics within the church. A lively audience enjoyed the first of the bands from Marquette Les Lille who entertained with a compilation of Rock and Roll numbers.

After the interval the second of the two French bands performed acoustic popular music that went down well with the audience. The show stopper had to be the performance of the film Music from Henry V. So much enjoyed by both the band and the audience that an encore was demanded and the band obliged.

A wonderful concert and a fitting way to finish the Sleaford Live 08 week.

Waddington Air Show

Time: 3:45pm - 4:30pm & 5:15pm - 6:00pm

Another excellent day was spent by the Sleaford Concert Band at The RAF Waddington Air Show. We were privileged to be on the same programme as Foss Dyke Band, The Humberside Police Band, Swingtime, The Nottingham Concert Band and the RAF Waddington Voluntary Band. The standard of music was very high and the SCB didn't let the side down. A varied programme of music was performed to a very high standard by the band and the audience obviously enjoyed the choice of music. A big thank you to Cpl Ed Cox for looking after us on the day.

October 2008
Sat 11th St Denys Church, Sleaford

Poppy Prom
Royal British Legion Remembrance Concert

Time: 7:30pm

Tickets: £6 (in advance and on the door).
Tickets available: In advance from Keith Dolby Jewellers, Sleaford and the Sleaford Target office.

Saturday 11th October saw St Deny's Church full to capacity. The members of Sleaford Royal British Legion had done a brilliant job selling tickets and over 500 people were packed into the church. The Band was outstanding!! Sadly both bass players had to miss the concert due to family bereavements (our thoughts were with both of you) but Ian Saunders from Newark and Sherwood Concert Band stood in at the last minute and saved the day. Thank you Ian.
The programme of music was selected with a military theme in mind and this proved to be most agreeable with the audience. The Concert culminated with the Evening Hymn and Sunset preceded by a very emotional reading from the words of Henry Allingham, now 112 years old and one of the very last surviving veterans of the First World War.
Once again Jim McQuade provided an extremely interesting commentary throughout the programme, his introductions to the music were well received by an interested audience.
Many comments have been made concerning the performance of the Band but I must state that it ranks as one of the best ever from this group of talented musicians who, at every opportunity, are enhancing an already good reputation.
The Band has already been booked for next year's Poppy Prom which will be on the 17th October.

GREAT PRAISE FOR CHRISTMAS CONCERT

"What a concert!! The Sleaford Concert Band just get better and better." Quote from a concert goer.
"The best yet" Quote from a concert goer.
"When when when will the band make a CD?" Quote from a concert goer.

In front of an estimated audience of just over 300 the Sleaford Concert Band presented a truly traditional Christmas Concert which was received with tremendous applause from the audience. With a good proportion of the musicians either suffering from or recovering from the flu, the standard of the music was of an unbelievably high standard. A completely new line-up on the percussion section coped with the music very well and Nathaniel (14 years old) played the kit very well. Once again this band has showed strength in depth and is now looking forward to a well earned rest before preparing for its next concert in February. A big thank you to all members of the band and well done.
